MRS. BATEMAN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL
By Norma Walsh (Nee Scott)

Mrs. B. Bateman was the wife of a soldier settler, Mr. Fred Bateman whose orchard property was in Aldersyde Road. On Sunday afternoons many of the Piesse Brook children would walk in their Sunday dress to Mrs. Bateman’s Sunday school. She would accompany us on the piano while we sang our songs. Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam, etc. We would be told a bible story and given a little text to take home (how we treasured these) and would put a penny in the plate.

At the end of the year we were delighted to receive a book at the Sunday School Anniversary. Before our long trek home this kindly lady would send us on our way with a drink of cocoa and a biscuit.

God Bless You Mrs. Bateman
